“Give A Little Love and Compassion”
Written By: Danielle Rasmussen
Info: This is a 7th Heaven Fan Fiction story. I do not own any of the characters in this story except for Tina Johnson, Jason Johnson, and Lynn Johnson.
This episode occurs in 1996, so Sam and David are not yet born. Ruthie is still too young and doesn’t attend school.
It is an early Monday morning in March. Everyone in the Camden home is still sleeping peacefully.
Annie awakens to a loud scream followed by sobbing outside on the front porch.
She silently gets out of bed, puts on her robe, slippers, and slips down stairs. Annie opens the front door, and to her surprise, there sits a little girl crying.
Annie: Hi, sweetie. My name is Annie. What is your name?
Girl (between sobs): Hi, my name is Lynn.
Annie: Lynn, why are you crying and where are your parents?
Lynn: I want my mommy!! Why did she leave me again?
Annie: Honey, your mom has left you before?
Lynn: Yes, I guess she doesn’t have enough money to take care of me because of my special needs. I have Down syndrome.
Annie takes Lynn into her arms, gives her a hug and tries to comfort her the best she can.
Annie: How old are you?
Lynn: I am eleven. I want my mommy! Annie, can you please be my angel.. I mean mom?
Lynn starts to cry again. Annie pulls her closer and hugs her, and gives her a kiss on her head.
Annie: Sweetie, I am here for you, but I can never take the place of your mom. She loves you so much.
Lynn: If she loves me, then why did she leave me?
Annie: I don’t know. Sometimes parents get scared and they don’t know where to go or who to turn to for help. They may do things such as this or even worse. My husband and I will take good care of you until we find your mom or dad.
Lynn: Doesn’t my mom love me?!? PLEASE don’t make me go with my dad. He is mean and hurts mommy.
Annie: I am sure that your mom loves you, honey.
Lynn: Do you have any children?
Annie: Yes, sweetie. I have five. Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon and Ruthie.
Lynn: Wow! Do any of them have special needs, like me?
Annie: No, but they are all very wonderful. You will probably get along with my daughter, Lucy.
Lynn: Oh. I miss my mommy.
Annie: I know you do. Lets go inside. Would you like something to eat? We have to be quiet because everyone is still asleep.
Lynn: Okay. Can I have some blueberry pancakes, please?
Annie: Of course you can. I was going to make pancakes for everyone before they went to school. Would you like some orange juice, too?
Lynn: Oh, okay. Yes, please.
Annie and Lynn quietly go into the house, through the living room, and then into the kitchen.
Annie: Honey, you can sit on one of the stools while I cook.
Lynn: Okay.
Annie makes the pancakes for Lynn and then for everyone else. She gives Lynn her food.
Annie: I will be back in a few minutes. I have to go wake everyone up so they can get ready for school.
Lynn: Okay, but you are going to come back, right?
Annie: Yes, sweetie. I will.
Lynn (she stutters over her words): I love you, Annie.
Annie (smiles and hugs Lynn): I love you, too.
Annie heads upstairs, waking Eric first and then the rest of the kids.
Annie: Children, I need to have a family meeting with all of you in our bedroom. Yes, even you Eric.
Ruthie: Okay, mommy. Is Simon in trouble for…
Simon (glaring at Ruthie): She is just joking.
Annie: No, no one is in trouble…Yet
They all go to Eric and Annie’s room. Ruthie, Simon, and Lucy all go and jump onto the bed. Mary and Matt just sit on the floor.
Eric: Go ahead, honey. What is it?
Annie: Early this morning, I heard someone scream. I went downstairs and found an 11-year-old girl, Lynn, on our front porch crying. She is downstairs eating. I want all of you to be nice to her. She has Down syndrome as well.
Lucy: Where are her mommy and daddy?
Annie: I don’t know, sweet pea. She might have to stay with us for a while.
Mary: Okay, can we go eat now?
Eric: Yes…
Annie and Eric take all the children downstairs for breakfast and to meet Lynn.
All the Camdens’ are downstairs sitting at the kitchen table.
Annie: Lynn, this is my husband, Eric, and all of our children.
Annie introduces all of the children to Lynn. She starts with Matt and ends with Ruthie.
Mary: Mom, is she staying with us forever?
Annie: I don’t know, sweet heart. It all depends on what happens with her….
Matt: With her mom?
Lynn (starting to cry again): Annie! I want my mommy!
Annie: Yes, Matt. Everyone please finish eating and go upstairs and get ready for school.
Annie takes Lynn in her arms, hugging her and trying to get her calmed down.
Eric (after Lynn has quit crying):Can I please speak to you in the living room?
Annie: Yes. Lynn, go ahead and finish your breakfast. Eric and I need to talk.
Lynn: Okay, but please come back.
Annie: I will. (She turns to Matt) Matt, will you please clean up the kitchen some before you leave for school?
Matt: Um, okay, mom.
Annie: Thanks, honey.
All of the Camden children except Matt go upstairs to get ready for school. Matt cleans the kitchen and goes upstairs about 10 minutes later. Annie and Eric go into the living room to talk to one another.
Annie and Eric are in the living room. Eric is slightly irritated.
Eric: I barely make enough money to pay bills and feed everyone. I don’t think we can stretch it much more if she has to stay with us for a long period of time.
Annie: I know, I know, but Lynn says that her dad beats her mom and that her mom doesn’t have enough money to take care of her. You don’t want to send her back to that, do you?
Eric: Well of course not! Can I at least call Sergeant Michaels?
Annie: I guess, but I don’t want her to end up in some foster home that is worse then her normal home. (Under her breath) If you can even call it that.
Eric: I know. I don’t want that to happen either. I need her mom and dads names.
Annie: Okay. I’ll go and ask her.
Annie slowly walks into the kitchen, trying to think of a way to ask Lynn about her parents without making her cry.
Lynn: Annie! You’re back! Yay!
Annie: Yes, I am sweetie. My husband needs to know your mommy and daddy’s names.
Lynn’s eyes begin to fill with tears.
Lynn (stuttering over her words): My mommy’s name is Tina Johnson and my dad is Jason Johnson.
Annie (taking Lynn into her arms and kissing her on the head.): Thank you honey. Eric is going to see if he can find your mom.
Lynn (sniffles):Okay. I hope he can find her.
Lynn continues to slowly eat her pancakes, as Annie goes back to the living room to tell Eric what she found out.
Annie: Lynn said her fathers name is Jason Johnson and her mom is Tina Johnson.
Eric: Okay. Thank you, honey. I am going to call Sergeant Michaels now.
Annie: Okay.
Eric picks up the phone and dials Michaels’ number.
Michaels: Hello this is Sergeant Michaels.
Eric: Hi, this is Eric.
Michaels: How’s everything going?
Eric: It’s going, but we have a little situation.
Michaels: Okay. What kind of situation?
Eric: Well, Annie woke up this morning to a loud scream coming from our front porch. She went down stairs and found an 11-year-old girl, Lynn Johnson. Annie told me that she has downs syndrome and her mom has left her before due to a lack of money.
Michaels: Oh. What are her parents’ names?
Eric: Tina and Jason Johnson. Lynn told Annie that Jason beats Tina.
Michaels: Eric, I am going to put you on hold while I look up their records.
Eric: Okay.
Michaels puts Eric on hold and Eric tells Annie what he is doing. Michaels is astonished by what he finds.
Michaels: Um.. Eric, are you there?
Eric: Yes. Did you find anything?
Michaels: Oh, yeah! It turns out her dad is in prison for attempted murder (Tina) and Tina is wanted for possession, distributing, and buying illegal drugs. I can’t believe Child Services left Lynn in that home.
Eric: Oh, my. I am glad Tina left her at our house.
Michaels: I am, too. Do you want me to come and pick her up?
Eric: No, not yet. I will take the other children to school and then Annie and I will discuss what we want to do. There isn’t a possibility that Tina can get custody of Lynn after this, can she?
Michaels: Okay, jus let me know sometime today. No, she can’t. She will be put in prison if I have any say so.
Eric: Will do. Thanks for the help. Bye.
Michaels: You’re welcome. Bye.
Eric hangs up the phone and looks at Annie in disbelief.
Annie: Eric, what is going on? I didn’t like that expression on your face.
Eric: Well, um..Honey, Jason is in prison for attempting to murder Tina. Tina is on the run from the police for possession, distribution and the buying of illegal drugs.
Annie gasps and puts her hands over her mouth shocked.
Annie: We defiantly cannot send Lynn back with her mom or any relative for that matter. If we only could afford to adopt her.
Annie begins to cry. Eric takes her in his arms and kisses her blonde, curly hair.
Eric: Sweetie, I want to adopt her, too. Money isn’t very much around here. We have all day to talk things over before I have to call Sergeant Michaels back.
Annie (wipes tears from her eyes): Oh, Eric! I can’t put her in a foster home.
Eric: Sshh. Everything will be okay. I’ll make sure of it, okay?
Annie: Okay. We need to get the kids to school. I’ll stay here with Lynn. I love you sweet heart.
Eric: I love you, too. Don’ t worry my sweet love.
Annie gives Eric a hug and a kiss good-bye. Eric goes upstairs to get the kids and Annie goes in the kitchen to be with Lynn.
Annie: I’m back, Lynn.
Lynn: Okay. I’m glad that you didn’t leave me.
Annie: I wouldn’t leave you.
Lynn: Wow! Really?
Annie: Really. Are you still hungry? Or do you need anything else?
Lynn: I am full, but I am tired.
Annie: Do you want to go upstairs and take a bath then a nap?
Lynn: Okay. I am really tired.
Before Annie takes Lynn upstairs she kisses and hugs all of her children as the walk out the back door to leave for school.[/color]
